JFK Essay (Paper Blog Project)
Project Started - December 12-13, 2013
Project Due - January 15-16, 2014
Final Copy Due - January 23-24, 2014
This project focuses on the Civil Rights and John F. Kennedy's "Report to the American People on Civil Rights, 11, June 1963". This class should be able to be completed completely in class, although students may need to take small pieces home to finish for the next class. This project will actually span the 2nd and 3rd nine weeks, with different pieces due at different times.
Students will be given three question options to answer for their essay:
1. Who is Kennedy's intended audience in this speech? What is the speaker's purpose in this speech and how does he make this known? Support your answer with evidence from the text.
2. What results did Kennedy hope to achieve through his speech? What solutions does he offer to achieve those results? Support your answer with evidence from the text.
3. What issue is outlined in Kennedy's speech? According to Kennedy, why is this a problem? Support your answer with evidence from the text.
